Greek locksmith Taxisarchis Papaiwannou advises home security upgrades for holiday travelers

With summer holidays in full swing, burglaries are a major concern for Greeks leaving their homes for several days. Locksmith Taxisarchis Papaiwannou told the MEGA TV program “Koinonia Ora MEGA” that proper home fortification and the way doors are locked can deter would‑be intruders.

He explained that old‑type lock mechanisms are easy targets, while modern cylinder locks equipped with a defender protector make forced entry much harder. He stressed that “time is the most important factor” – the longer a burglar spends, the more likely they will abandon the attempt. For those unable to replace an entire lock, swapping only the cylinder offers a cheaper yet more secure alternative.

Papaiwannou also gave practical advice: always keep the door locked, never leave the key inserted from the inside, and avoid common mistakes that make doors easier to breach.
