Dubai detains 'Entik' and 'Leonidas' accused of leading Greek Mafia network

Dubai authorities have placed in custody two suspects known as “Entik” (also called “Voice”) and “Leonidas”. They are alleged to be the head and deputy of a Russian‑speaking criminal organization that runs illegal cigarette smuggling and has carried out contract killings against members of the Greek Mafia. The group is said to include members from Russia, Ukraine and Georgia and is linked to extortion, kidnappings, bombings, arson and murders of Giannis Skafoutros, Vasilis Roumbetas, Dionysis Mouzakitis and Vangelis Zampounis.

Greek police have asked the United Arab Emirates to extradite the two men to Greece, and Cyprus has filed a similar request. Russia, however, has protested, saying the suspects should not be sent to Greece or Cyprus for security reasons. The detainees have been held in Dubai for roughly two weeks, and officials expect a decision on the extradition requests soon.
