Mystras freezer case: 55‑year‑old hides father's corpse to claim pension
Police in the Peloponnese town of Mystras arrested a 55‑year‑old man after neighbors reported that a 90‑year‑old man with dementia had not been seen for years. A search of the son’s abandoned two‑storey hotel revealed the father’s body frozen in an industrial freezer in the basement. The son admitted to keeping the corpse for about two and a half years so he could continue receiving his father’s pension and the pension of his deceased mother. He also possessed an air‑gun, leading to additional charges of illegal weapons possession. Investigators have found no obvious signs of violence on the body; a full autopsy is pending. The man faces charges of fraud against the state, false testimony and weapons‑law violations.
