Greek man travels to Houston for experimental Ewing sarcoma treatment

Alexis, a 20-year-old from Chania, Greece, is traveling to Houston, USA, to undergo specialized treatment for Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. After being diagnosed in October 2023, his condition was initially mistaken for a herniated disc.

The experimental treatment is personalized based on the patient's DNA and is currently unavailable in Europe. To cover the $500,000 cost of the procedure, a massive crowdfunding effort was launched, involving donations from the general public and support from prominent figures. Alexis expressed his gratitude to those who contributed, stating that their collective efforts are giving him a “second chance.”
