Greek maritime union proposes mandatory beach defibrillators

The Panhellenic Union of Private and Professional Mariners (P.E.P.I.E.TH.) has submitted a formal proposal to the Greek Ministries of Health and Maritime Affairs to mandate the presence of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at organized and crowded beaches.

Following a recent tragic incident at Klima Beach in Aegina, the Union, led by President George Vallis, is calling for a unified legislative framework. The proposal suggests that all organized beaches and high-traffic tourist businesses must have certified, functional AEDs in visible and easily accessible locations. The initiative also emphasizes the need for strict maintenance protocols, regular equipment checks, and training for personnel to ensure immediate intervention during maritime emergencies.
