Greek market stakeholders propose tax relief for consistent taxpayers

Market stakeholders, represented by the Permanent Scientific Committee of Market Stakeholders, have submitted a package of tax relief proposals to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance ahead of the IMF review.

A central component of the proposal is the establishment of a formal ‘Consistent Taxpayer Status’. This system would reward businesses and professionals with a ‘white’ tax record through objective, transparent, and verifiable criteria evaluated on a rolling three-year basis. Benefits for consistent taxpayers could include faster tax refunds, reduced tax advances, priority in tax information, and a lower intensity of preventive audits.

Additional proposals include tax incentives for companies that invest and increase employment, reforms to the criteria for self-employed professionals, and a reduction in the tax rate for legal entities. The package also suggests the gradual abolition of the professional occupation tax, maintaining VAT suspension on new constructions, and addressing real estate taxation and non-salary costs.
