Greek Media Trust Plummets to Record Low in 2026 Reuters Report

The Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report 2026 shows that overall confidence in Greek mass media fell to just 18%, a drop of four percentage points from 2025 and the lowest level in the last 11 years. Among the 48 countries surveyed, Greece now ranks at the bottom for media trust.

Conversely, the survey highlights that local and regional newspapers remain the most trusted source, with a 54% trust rating, up five points from the previous year. Other outlets that scored relatively high include the online portal OPEN at 48% and public broadcaster ERT News at 46%. Traditional broadcasters such as Mega (45%) and Alpha (42%) also retain moderate trust levels.

The findings underscore a deepening credibility crisis for Greek media overall, while emphasizing the resilience of community‑focused print publications in retaining public confidence.
