Greek MEPs raise concerns over EU funding and InvestEU access

Greek MEPs have raised distinct concerns regarding European Union financial mechanisms during recent sessions.

Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos, representing the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), submitted a formal inquiry to the European Commission regarding the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The KKE argues that the program has functioned as a ‘super-memorandum’ that benefits large monopolies through subsidies and loans while increasing debt for citizens. The inquiry highlights that the Greek program, totaling 36 billion euros, has prioritized capitalist investments and fiscal discipline over social needs such as health and energy security.

Separately, New Democracy MEP Giorgos Avtias addressed the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, calling for guarantees that Turkey be excluded from future funding through the InvestEU program. Avtias cited Turkey’s aggressive rhetoric and threats against EU member states as justification for ensuring that only European countries receive such investment resources, specifically requesting assurances that third countries posing threats to the Union are barred from access.
