Greek Metropolitans warn of clergy shortages in remote areas
Metropolitans Hieronymos of Kalavryta and Georgios of Karpenisi have expressed deep concern regarding the increasing shortage of clergy within the Greek Orthodox Church. The shortage is particularly acute in mountainous villages, islands, and remote border regions.
The religious leaders emphasized the need to serve as an inspiration for younger generations to join the priesthood. To address this issue, Schools for Candidate Clergy Apprenticeship have been established with the support of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens, who continues to back initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to enter the clergy. The leaders have also issued a call to the State to acknowledge and address these existing needs.
