Greek Migration Minister Thanos Plevris condemns anarchist attacks

Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris said the recent attacks on political figures, including the assault on Deputy Minister Sébē Voloudaki in Chania and the bombing that killed Vagia Néstora, were carried out by “criminal anarchists” and vowed that the state would “break them”. He linked contemporary extremist actions to the historic 17 November terrorist organization, describing it as the “mother‑cell” of many post‑dictatorship terrorist groups.

Plevris also addressed the ongoing Marfin banking case, noting that new technological evidence would be examined by the courts while reaffirming the presumption of innocence for those involved. In the same interview he discussed the controversial €250 bonus for lawyers handling asylum‑seeker return cases, saying the measure is under review after backlash from bar associations and that Greece is negotiating with EU partners to establish return centers outside the Union by 2026‑27.
