Greek Minister Chrysochoidis addresses NGO fraud investigation
Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis has addressed the dismantling of a criminal organization that allegedly used a non-governmental organization (NGO) to misappropriate donations intended for sick children. Speaking from Thessaloniki, the Minister emphasized that while NGOs play a vital role in civil society and social cohesion, no institution is above the law.
The investigation, conducted by the Organized Crime Unit of Western Greece, revealed that members of the group allegedly exploited public sympathy by promoting fraudulent activities to collect donations. According to authorities, a significant portion of the funds intended to support children with serious health problems did not reach the intended beneficiaries.
Chrysochoidis stated that further operational and financial investigations are underway to identify and eliminate similar phenomena and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
