Greek Minister Honors Late Politician Ioannis Palaiokrassas at Road Naming Ceremony

Minister of Rural Development and Food Margaritis Schoinas praised the late Ioannis Palaiokrassas during a ceremony in Andros that named a street after him. Schoinas highlighted Palaiokrassas' tenure as Finance Minister, where he helped restore fiscal surpluses and increase public revenues, and his later role as Greece’s European Commissioner, noting his early warnings about fiscal risks before the crisis.

The minister also recalled the 1992 terrorist attack on Palaiokrassas and the murder of Thanos Axarlian, describing the events as a lasting scar on Greek society. He referenced a recent homicide in Thessaloniki of Vagia Nestora to underline that political violence remains a threat. The ceremony was attended by Vice‑President of the Government Kostis Hatzidakis.
