Greek Minister Plevris Approves Temporary Migrant Shelter in Heraklion
The Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum, led by Minister Thanos Plevris, issued a ministerial decision published in the Government Gazette to grant free use of a private property for two months as a temporary migrant accommodation structure in Heraklion, Crete. The property, owned by G.E. Skouloudis Commercial Import‑Export Industrial Hotel‑Tourism Company, is located in the Linariidi area of the Athanatoi district and covers about 2,000 sq m across three parcels totaling 5,604.89 sq m.
During the two‑month free‑use period the Ministry will carry out technical works to adapt the facilities for hosting third‑country nationals seeking asylum. The arrangement does not create any cost for the state budget, and the free use may be extended if the need persists and the required administrative approvals are obtained. The decision was signed on 3 August 2026, paving the way for a permanent lease contract after the preparatory phase.
