Greek Minister Thanos Plevris orders deportation of foreigner over illegal migration video

Immigration Minister Thanos Plevris announced on June 24, 2026 that the residence permit of a foreign national would be revoked and deportation proceedings started. The decision follows a social‑media video in which the individual urged migrants to enter Nafplio illegally, claiming that the area was not policed. Plevris said the video spreads false news and is used by smuggling networks to persuade illegal entry into the European Union. Police identified the person, who held a legal residence permit, opened a criminal case, and ordered the enforcement of the new Immigration Code provisions for his removal.

The minister emphasized that authorities will act against any propaganda that facilitates illegal migration and assured that the deportation process will be carried out according to law.
