Greek Ministry Launches Public Consultation on National Water Strategy

The Ministry of Environment and Energy in Greece has opened a public consultation on the draft "National Water Strategy" until July 22. The strategy sets a comprehensive framework for water resource management, emphasizing three pillars: water as a guarantee of life, health and prosperity; climate protection through prevention and security; and modern governance based on knowledge, transparency and implementation capacity. It outlines seven strategic axes aimed at ensuring quantitative and qualitative water sufficiency, climate‑resilient infrastructure, and effective oversight. The ministry calls on citizens to participate in shaping policies that will secure water access, protect ecosystems and support sustainable social and economic development.

The consultation seeks input on challenges such as fragmented administration, financing, and climate‑driven droughts and floods, with particular attention to Greece’s unique geography and seasonal water demand.
