Greece Ministry of Culture launches heritage projects in Trikala and Prespes

The Greek Ministry of Culture is implementing extensive programs to protect and promote cultural heritage in Trikala and the Prespes region of Western Macedonia.

In Trikala, projects exceeding 16 million euros are underway to create a unified network of monuments. This includes the development of the Timeless Archaeological Museum in the TAXYP building and the restoration of ancient, Byzantine, and Ottoman monuments. A notable project involves the conservation and repositioning of the unique Roman mosaic of Lycurgus within the Ancient Trikke archaeological site.

In the Prespes region, a 2-million-euro program is being executed in collaboration with the Region of Western Macedonia and the Municipality of Prespes. The initiative focuses on the island of Agios Achilleios and Agios Germanos, targeting the restoration of Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments, such as the Monastery of Panagia Porfyras and the Church of the Holy Apostles. Other planned works include improving accessibility, maintaining trails, and upgrading the Archaeological Collection of Agios Germanos by 2027.
