Greek Ministry of Culture to Restore Saint Joseph Temple in Tinos

The Greek Ministry of Culture has approved a comprehensive restoration program for the 19th‑century Saint Joseph Temple in the town of Loutra on the island of Tinos. The project, announced by Minister Lina Mendoni, will address structural deterioration caused by humidity, age and prior incompatible repairs, aiming to preserve the building’s historic and architectural integrity.

The temple, built between 1859 and 1872 under the patronage of the local Catholic community and the Jesuit presence, is noted for its neoclassical style with Italian influences, wooden vaulted roof, marble altar and rich interior decoration. The restoration will follow modern conservation standards, including new architectural documentation, to enable the safe reopening of the site for worship and cultural tourism.
