Greek Ministry of Education opens student housing grant applications and imposes certification fees for foreign-universe

The Ministry of Education announced that applications for the 2025‑2026 student housing grant are now open. Eligible applicants – Greek citizens or EU nationals enrolled in higher education, holding a valid academic ID, tax number and Greek tax residency – must submit their request online via the stegastiko.minedu.gov.gr portal using their TAXISnet credentials. The deadline for submissions is Friday, 31 July. The grant provides €500 for single‑occupancy rentals in Attica and Thessaloniki, €250 for shared housing in those regions, €200 for single‑occupancy elsewhere, and €150 for shared accommodation outside the two main areas.

In a separate measure, the ministry introduced a mandatory certification fee for branches of foreign universities operating in Greece. The fee funds quality‑assurance audits and varies by the type of evaluation: €15,000 for internal quality‑system certification, €12,000 for on‑site program certification, and €6,000 for distance‑learning program certification. The amounts can be adjusted through a ministerial decision after consultation with the National Authority for Higher Education.
