Greek Minority Party alleges electoral fraud in Serbia
The Civic Party of Greeks in Serbia (GSGS) has raised alarms regarding alleged "electoral engineering and abuse of minority rights" ahead of the National Council of the Greek National Minority elections scheduled for November 8.
GSGS President Vasilios E. Provelegios claims that "phantom Greek" electoral lists have been submitted in the municipalities of Niš, Žitorađa, Pirot, and Vranje. The party asserts that these areas lack a significant Greek population according to census data and that the lists contain individuals with no connection to Greek culture or tradition, but who are instead known figures from other spheres closely linked to specific political circles.
The party alleges that certain political structures are exploiting a legal loophole that allows for registration on the special electoral roll without requiring material proof of origin. In response, GSGS announced it will file criminal complaints with relevant prosecutors to investigate the potential falsification and manipulation of voter lists. Additionally, the party has contacted the Greek Embassy in Belgrade and authorities in Athens, requesting that those involved be banned from entering Greece and the Schengen Area.
