Greek motorcyclist killed in fatal accident in Serbia

Giannis Xagoraris, a resident of Syros, Greece, died following a motorcycle accident in Serbia on Tuesday, September 1. The incident occurred on the Morava Corridor motorway near Kruševac while Xagoraris was on a European motorcycle tour with five friends from Crete.

According to Serbian authorities, the motorcycle, which carried Greek license plates, veered off course and struck a metal guardrail. Xagoraris was transported to the Kruševac General Hospital, where he was treated in the intensive care unit before being pronounced dead. Local police and a prosecutor are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including whether a sudden medical issue may have contributed to the loss of control.

Xagoraris was a well-known figure in Syros, working as a technician for the local water and sewage utility (DEYAS) and participating actively in local cultural life as an amateur actor. In response to his passing, the offices of DEYAS in Syros announced they would remain closed as a mark of respect.
