Greek MP calls for inspection of Roman Aqueduct in Preveza

Greek Member of Parliament Kostas Barkas has submitted a parliamentary question requesting an immediate inspection of the Roman Aqueduct at the Saint George Spring in the Municipality of Ziros. This request follows a technical report from the local municipality detailing significant deterioration of the historical monument.

The report identifies damage to the masonry, local material loss, and the growth of spontaneous vegetation on various parts of the structure. Additionally, debris such as stones and soil have been found in the surrounding area. These issues have been exacerbated by recent fires and intense flooding in the region.

Because parts of the monument are located near roads and pedestrian paths, Barkas is seeking an assessment of potential risks to public safety. He has called on the Ministry of Culture and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza to conduct a specialized scientific evaluation to determine the necessary maintenance and restoration works.
