Greek MP criticizes government policies affecting military personnel

Michalis Katrinis, a PASOK MP and head of the National Defense Committee, has criticized the Greek government regarding its policies toward military personnel. Speaking before the Parliament's Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, Katrinis argued that the degradation of human resources is harming the Armed Forces.

Katrinis specifically condemned the disruption of career paths for non-commissioned officers, citing a decline in grading and the devaluation of long-serving personnel. He accused the government of retroactively changing the rules under which these individuals chose to serve, thereby limiting their career prospects and weakening incentives to remain in service.

He noted reports from military unions regarding resignations from units equipped with modern weapon systems, departures from military academies, and retroactive cuts to mission allowances. Katrinis warned that these measures negatively impact morale and the attractiveness of military schools. He also called for a legislative solution to address grading injustices affecting personnel who enlisted in 1992 and 1993.
