Greek MP demands answers over police flashbang incident and school shortages

PASOK-KINAL Member of Parliament Giorgos Moulkiotis has submitted a formal inquiry to the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, regarding a police incident in Omonoia on October 21, 2026. Following a demonstration, a riot police officer was filmed throwing a flashbang grenade toward the entrance of a Metro station staircase. Moulkiotis is questioning whether the action was an authorized operational order or an individual initiative, citing serious concerns regarding citizen safety and the adherence to operational protocols.

Separately, MP Michalis Hurdakis has raised concerns regarding significant staffing shortages in schools within the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykeon. According to municipal records, 78 school units face unfilled needs totaling 140.5 hours across primary and secondary education. These vacancies include teachers, school nurses, psychologists, and social workers. Hurdakis specifically highlighted the suspension of an all-day class at the 8th Primary School of Sykeon, requesting a timeline for staffing coverage and explanations for the disruption to families.
