Greek MP Maximos Charakopoulos Calls for Declassification of Private Lands in Aigani

Maximos Charakopoulos, General Secretary of the New Democracy parliamentary group and MP for Larissa, submitted a formal request to Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou asking that privately owned parcels in the Aigani community of the Tempi municipality be removed from the forest register. The request, signed by community president Theodora Anagnostopoulou, argues that the forest classification, despite legal ownership titles, severely limits landowners’ rights, creates long‑standing administrative and judicial delays, and hampers the area’s economic development.

Charakopoulos cites the historic 1927 purchase contract (No. 2098) that established the land as a single farm owned by 130 Aigani residents, and calls for legislative action to enable a special re‑examination process, protect property rights, and align the classification with constitutional provisions on ownership and environmental protection.
