Greek MP Maximos Senetakis says Greek courts have final say

New Democracy MP Maximos Senetakis, elected from Heraklion, responded to the European Public Prosecutor Office's recent announcement concerning investigations of sitting parliamentarians. While the EPPO said the cases of seven members were closed for lack of evidence, it continued a disciplinary proceeding against four MPs, including Senetakis. He declared he has committed no offence, demanded the lifting of his parliamentary immunity and awaited trial. Senetakis rejected allegations that he participated in a 2021 phone call with the former OPEKEPE president to influence a producer request, insisting the discussion was purely procedural and that he neither proposed a technical solution nor approved the related €2,500 grant. Emphasising respect for the Greek judicial system, he said the EPPO’s statement ends many political speculations and that the final judgment rests with national courts.
