Greek MP Milti Chrysomal opposes discriminatory Local Government Code provision

Member of Parliament Milti Chrysomal of New Democracy publicly criticised a new provision in the Local Government Code that obliges municipalities to refrain from filing legal actions against certain contract employees who have secured permanent positions through court rulings. He argued that the rule creates an unconstitutional "serious discrimination" by applying only to staff in specific services, treating equally qualified workers differently.

Chrysomal called for an amendment that would remove the service‑based distinction and extend the rule to all contract employees of local authorities who have worked at least two years since 1 January 2023 and have obtained a court‑validated permanent appointment. He stressed that the measure does not burden the state budget and should be consistent with the Constitution.
