Greek MP requests reinstatement of cosmetology studies at DIPAE
Christos Kapetanos, a Member of Parliament for New Democracy representing Larissa, has submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki, regarding the reinstatement of Aesthetics and Cosmetology studies at the International University of the Mediterranean (DIPAE).
The proposal suggests establishing a specific sector, direction, or academic structure within the Department of Biomedical Sciences to host these studies. Kapetanos noted that prior to the restructuring of higher education and the abolition of TEIs, the former Alexandrio TEI of Thessaloniki operated a dedicated Department of Aesthetics and Cosmetology.
According to the parliamentary inquiry, the absence of this academic structure following the integration into DIPAE has created an educational gap in Northern Greece. The MP highlighted that students from Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, and Thessaly currently lack access to local university programs in this growing field, which intersects with health, wellness, and applied cosmetic science.
