Katerina Papakosta trial postponed to 2026 in OPEKEPE case

The trial of New Democracy MP Katerina Papakosta, concerning the OPEKEPE agricultural subsidy scandal, has been postponed by the Single-Member Court of Appeal until November 20, 2026. The postponement follows requests from defense lawyers citing scheduling conflicts due to participation in another trial.

Papakosta, who is also a lawyer, faces charges including instigating computer fraud, false statements, and breach of trust. The case involves allegations that agricultural subsidies were improperly obtained in 2021 through inaccurate declarations made by a producer within her electoral district.

Co-defendants in the case include former OPEKEPE President Dimitris Melas, an OPEKEPE employee, and an associate of the MP. The legal proceedings were initiated following an investigation and indictment by the European Public Prosecutor's Office in July.

This case is the first of four separate trials involving New Democracy MPs related to the OPEKEPE investigation. The other three MPs—Christos Boukoros, Maximos Senetakis, and Kostas Skrekas—are scheduled for trial on October 27, October 30, and November 12, respectively.
