Greek municipalities extend employment for older workers
Municipalities in Greece are moving to extend employment programs for older workers and address urgent staffing needs.
The Municipal Committee of Oichalia is set to consider a request to the Public Employment Service (DYPA) to extend subsidized employment for workers aged 55 and older by an additional 12 months. Additionally, the committee will review the hiring of temporary staff to meet urgent seasonal or immediate municipal requirements and discuss a deadline extension for an infrastructure project in Malthe.
In the Municipality of Trifylia, Mayor Georgios Leventakis has approved a one-year contract extension for two sanitation workers in Kyparissia and Filiatra. These workers, aged 55-67, are part of a long-term unemployed program supported by DYPA. The extension covers the period from October 17, 2026, to October 16, 2027, ensuring continued waste management and environmental services for the region.
