Greek municipalities honor former local officials

Municipal councils in Greece held emergency sessions to honor the passing of two former local government officials.

In Chalkida, the Municipal Council convened to recognize the contributions of Georgios Chalastaras, a former Municipal Councilor for the Nea Artaki municipal unit. Mayor Elena Vaka noted his service since 2003, emphasizing his dedication to the local community. The council unanimously passed a resolution to express condolences to his family and scheduled a minute of silence for the next session.

In the Municipality of Minos Pediada, the council met to honor Giannis Chalkiadakis, a former Deputy Mayor and community leader. To recognize his long-standing service to local administration and social causes, the council voted to name a street in his hometown of Pano Kastelliana ‘Ioannis Chalkiadakis Street’. The council also resolved to send a delegation to his funeral services.
