Greek Municipalities Upgrade Football Fields with New Synthetic Turf

The Municipality of Ampelokipoi‑Menemeni has begun work to replace the worn synthetic turf at the Apostolos Asteriades football stadium. The project involves removing the deteriorated surface and installing a new, high‑spec synthetic pitch to improve training conditions, match safety and reduce injury risk. Mayor Lazaros Kyrizoglos highlighted sport as an investment in the community’s health and future.

In the neighboring municipality of Kallithea (Niarhos), reconstruction of the football field in the Municipal Sports and Recreation Park has started. The 12‑year‑old synthetic turf, laid in 2012, is being removed and will be replaced with a new surface. The €300,000 project is funded by the Attica Region, with thanks expressed to Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias. The upgrade aims to provide safe, modern facilities for local youth, clubs and residents ahead of the new sporting season.
