Greek officials discuss energy community initiatives and local policy
Lefteris Avgenakis, former Minister and Member of Parliament for Heraklion, has pledged to hold meetings with the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, and the CEO of HEDNO (DEDDIE), Anastasios Manos. These discussions aim to address critical issues facing energy communities in Crete, specifically focusing on project connections, energy storage, and virtual energy offsetting.
Avgenakis emphasized that the benefits of the energy transition must be tangible for households, businesses, and agricultural production. He also highlighted the strategic importance of the electrical interconnection between Crete and mainland Greece to ensure energy security and facilitate the use of clean energy. Additionally, he noted the role of the Green Fund in addressing energy poverty.
Separately, Aris Papoutsis, leader of the opposition in the Municipality of Marathon, participated in a meeting of the Environment and Energy Committee of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) in Lamia. The session allowed local government representatives to exchange views on environmental policy, energy challenges, and the common issues facing Greek municipalities.
