Greek officials discuss reopening Kalamata-Messini-Diabolitsia railway
Periklis Mantas, the Member of Parliament for Messinia, met with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotsiras to discuss the potential reopening of the Kalamata–Messini–Diabolitsia railway section. The meeting received a positive response from the Deputy Minister regarding the preparation of a feasibility study for the project.
The discussion involved various local officials, including the mayors of Kalamata and Messini, as well as representatives from OSE and the Greek Environment and Culture Company (ELLET). ELLET is leading a Greek-Swiss initiative to restore the historic railway in the Peloponnese.
Funding has already been secured through donations for sustainability studies concerning the Kalamata and Nafplio railway lines. The current proposal seeks to utilize this initiative to conduct a formal feasibility study to examine the requirements for operating the Kalamata–Messini–Diabolitsia segment.
