Greek tax authority seizes over 2 tons of unsafe Bulgarian dairy products
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (A.A.D.E.) in Greece intercepted a small foreign‑registered truck on the Makaza‑Komotini road carrying more than two tonnes of dairy products from Bulgaria. The load exceeded the legal weight limit by about 1.5 tonnes and was transported without the required refrigeration equipment. Veterinary inspectors from the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region declared the products unfit for consumption and a serious risk to public health. A.A.D.E.’s DEOS unit seized and fully destroyed the cargo and imposed the appropriate EFET‑mandated fines for both the overweight vehicle and the unsafe food. The agency said the operation is part of its targeted road‑checks aimed at curbing illegal food trade, protecting consumer health, ensuring market fairness and safeguarding state revenues.
