Greek officials visit Onassis Kolonou school and DEMOS network

Greek Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Sofia Zacharaki, Minister of State Akis Skertsos, and Onassis Foundation President Antonis St. Papadimitriou visited the Onassis Kolonou Gymnasium and Lyceum on October 2.

The officials toured the school facilities, including STEM, informatics, chemistry, and biology laboratories. They also visited a specialized criminology club where students practice crime scene investigation techniques.

The visit highlighted the DEMOS school network, which consists of 20 schools funded by the Onassis Foundation. These institutions provide dozens of educational clubs covering humanities, sciences, and arts, alongside daily access to school psychologists and nurses. Minister Zacharaki noted that the practices established within the DEMOS network, such as robotics, rhetoric, and entrepreneurship programs, represent a model that should be implemented in general schools across the country.
