Greek open-air markets to see regulatory reforms and afternoon hours

The General Confederation of Open-Air Markets, in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Development under Minister Takis Theodorakakis, is introducing significant reforms to modernize the sector. These changes, expected to be formalized in an upcoming circular, aim to reduce bureaucracy and improve operational efficiency for producers and professional vendors.

A key development is the authorization of afternoon market sessions. Vendors will now be permitted to operate at a second market on the same day, provided that the second market operates in the afternoon. This measure is intended to increase income for producers and provide better access for working consumers who cannot visit markets during morning hours.

Additionally, the reforms address administrative hurdles regarding OSDE documentation. In cases where a producer is unable to provide the required OSDE through no fault of their own, they may now submit a solemn declaration. This allows professional activities to continue without sanctions until the documentation process is completed.
