Greek opposition criticizes US relations and monastery disputes

In the Greek Parliament, SYRIZA leader Rena Dourou criticized the government's response to the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and recent comments by the US Ambassador to Greece. Dourou accused the US of promoting neo-colonialist doctrines and disregarding international law, specifically targeting the Ambassador's alleged provocative statements regarding US intervention capabilities in other nations.

Separately, SYRIZA members have submitted a parliamentary question to Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis regarding the status of negotiations for Saint Catherine's Monastery in Egypt. The inquiry follows reports suggesting that the Egyptian government is pressuring the monastic community to relinquish ownership rights of historical buildings within the monastery walls in exchange for limited usage rights. The situation remains unresolved amid legal disputes and tensions regarding the recognition of the monastery's new Abbot.
