Greek opposition targets government over metro costs and economy

Greek opposition parties have launched a coordinated critique against the government regarding the Thessaloniki Metro expansion, national economic decisions, and management of the Public Power Corporation (DEI).

Regarding the Thessaloniki Metro, PASOK acknowledged the project changes the city's transport map but raised concerns over unresolved issues such as access, parking, cost overruns, and timeline delays. Kyriakos Velopoulos of Hellenic Solution criticized the expansion as incomplete, noting it fails to reach high-population areas in Western Thessaloniki and cost an additional 700 million euros.

On economic matters, SYRIZA's Nikos Pappas criticized the decision for early repayment of first memorandum loans, arguing that the low interest rates mean this choice costs taxpayers approximately 300 million euros annually. Meanwhile, Dimitris Koutsoumpas of the Communist Party (KKE) addressed government claims regarding DEI, stating that workers will respond through a nationwide rally scheduled for September 5.
