Greek Orthodox Church marks feast days of Saint Panagis Basias and Saint Theodoros

On June 7 the Greek Orthodox Church commemorated Saint Panagis Basias, a 19th‑century monk from Lefkada known for his ascetic life, charitable work and prophetic gifts. He was ordained deacon and priest in 1836, served at the small Monastery of Saint Spyridon, and spent fifty years preaching and aiding the poor.

The following day, June 8, the Church observed the translation of the relics of Saint Theodoros the Martyr, a Roman army officer who suffered persecution for his Christian faith, alongside other saints such as Saint Callippe, Saint Theophanes the New Martyr, and Saint Nautrius. These commemorations emphasize the continuity of Orthodox veneration of early Christian witnesses and later martyrs of the Ottoman era.
