Greek Orthodox Church pledges spiritual and material aid as wildfires rage

The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece expressed deep sorrow over the destructive wildfires that are sweeping several regions of the country. In a statement, the Synod offered prayers and condolences to the families of three firefighters who lost their lives and called for the swift cessation of the fires.

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece, together with the metropolitans of the affected areas, announced that the Church will provide every possible form of spiritual, humanitarian and material assistance to those harmed by the blazes. Metropolis of Polyani and Kilkis spokesperson Bartholomaios reiterated the Church’s commitment to support the fire‑fighting personnel and to aid the recovery of the devastated communities.
