Greek Parliament debates fifth constitutional amendment

In a plenary session, PASOK‑Change MP Manolis Hnaris condemned the government for fast‑tracking a constitutional revision, saying the institutions have lost public credibility. He criticised the ruling New Democracy party for breaching the Constitution and highlighted the need for a substantive, non‑pre‑electoral amendment process.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and opposition leader Nikos Androulakis turned the debate into a pre‑election showdown, exchanging accusations over the proposed changes, including the requirement for a higher majority and the role of a mixed committee. Both leaders referenced recent scandals, such as the OPKEPE affair, and urged respect for constitutional rules.
