The Ethics Committee of the Hellenic Parliament voted unanimously to recommend that the parliamentary immunity of New Democracy MP Dimitris Avramopoulos be lifted. Avramopoulos, a former European Commissioner, submitted a detailed memorandum asserting his innocence and stating that he is ready to cooperate with Belgian authorities, who have issued a European arrest warrant in connection with the Qatargate investigation.

In his memorandum he repeats that his position on the Fight Impunity council was purely honorary, without any executive, administrative or financial duties, and that during his tenure no visa‑entry exemption was granted to Qatar. He also explains that his non‑appearance before the Belgian prosecutors in 2025 was based on legal advice rather than an attempt to evade justice. The committee’s recommendation will be submitted to the full House for a nominal vote after the summer recess.
