Greek Parliament reviews comprehensive income‑boosting bill
The Finance Committee of the Hellenic Parliament began examining the draft law titled “Measures to address the energy crisis and boost citizens' disposable income.” The proposal bundles wage and tax adjustments, an extrajudicial debt‑settlement mechanism, pension reforms, new gambling‑oversight rules, and changes to the public‑property agency, among other measures.
Deputy Ministers of National Economy and Finance Dimitris Markopoulos and Thanos Petralias said the bill aggregates all measures announced since December 2025, is financed by an €800 million supplementary budget, and is intended to solve existing problems across all social groups without shifting debt to future generations. The government rejected opposition claims that the package amounts to pre‑election handouts, emphasizing fiscal responsibility, digital tools to curb tax evasion, and steps to curb rent hikes through increased oversight.
