Greek Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis says early elections could ease political toxicity

Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis told Action24 that Greece could hold elections in the coming autumn instead of the scheduled June 2027 vote, describing an early poll as a possible “treatment” for the country’s political toxicity. He noted that any election before June 2027 would be formally early and argued that an earlier ballot would bring the electorate’s voice to the fore.

Kaklamanis also clarified that his remarks reflect his personal view, not the official stance of New Democracy, and referenced the ongoing constitutional amendment process, which aims to complete two voting rounds by late August.

He warned that the timing of an early election remains uncertain, but suggested that moving the date forward could help defuse partisan tensions.
