Greek PASOK Pushes 13th Pension Plan as Election Strategy

PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis presented the reinstatement of the 13th pension as a central element of the party’s pre‑election agenda, urging citizens to vote against New Democracy and emphasizing “trust and integrity.” He described the proposal as a phased, two‑installment measure spread over three years and linked it to broader social reforms such as the restoration of the minimum pension (Ekas).

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakos criticised the plan, estimating an annual fiscal cost of €2.5 billion and labeling it the “Katrukgalos law,” equating it with former Prime Minister Tsipras’s policies. He called for an official cost assessment by the General Accounting Office and highlighted ongoing reforms to professional contributions, the personal difference, and survivor pensions, while also referencing the OPEKEPE legal cases.
