Greek Patriot batteries intercept Houthi drones in Saudi Arabia

The Greek Patriot guided missile battery of the Hellenic Detachment in Saudi Arabia (ELDYSA) successfully engaged a swarm of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Operating as part of the international Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) Concept, the Greek unit launched three missiles to intercept the hostile drones. The operation was conducted in full coordination with the air defense systems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect critical infrastructure, including facilities in the Yanbu region.

Reports indicate the drones were launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen. This engagement follows previous successful interceptions by the Greek battery in July 2026, where it countered ballistic missiles and UAVs targeting the same region.
