Greek Police announce new risk allowances and €100 million deployment costs

The Hellenic Police have issued a government gazette detailing risk allowances for several categories of personnel. Aviation crew members, bomb‑disposal specialists, technical staff and police dog handlers will receive monthly or semi‑annual bonuses ranging from €600 to €1,000, with additional €130 payments for staff stationed in remote regions of Eastern and Western Macedonia, Thrace and Epirus.

The Ministry of Citizen Protection reported that the cost of relocating police personnel to meet operational needs—such as airport security, tourist hotspots, border stations, Frontex facilities and migrant‑flow management—has risen sharply. Expenditures grew from €40.37 million in 2023 to €76.87 million in 2024 and are projected at €98.26 million for 2025. Funds earmarked for 2026 total €65.48 million, of which about €59 million have already been committed. Details on force strength are kept confidential for security reasons.
