Greek police crack organized electricity‑theft ring targeting analog and digital meters

The Hellenic Police, conveyed by EL.AS. spokesperson Konstantia Demoglidu, disclosed a large organized electricity‑theft network. Investigators identified at least 105 illegal tamperings of electricity meters, with activities traced back to 2017.

Five suspects have been detained, three alleged members of the criminal group. Although not certified electricians, they possessed the technical expertise to alter both analog and digital meters, enabling households, businesses and even some legal entities to under‑pay for electricity. Abnormal consumption drops reported by the power company DEDDIE alerted authorities. The probe continues to assess the full extent of the losses caused by the scheme.
