Greece NGO fraud ring arrested for embezzling millions from sick children FAST-MOVING

Greek authorities have dismantled a criminal organization operating under the guise of the non-governmental organization (NGO) “Paidiki Chara.” Six individuals, including the 37-year-old founder Konstantinos Firinidis and his 35-year-old partner, were arrested following a large-scale police operation.

Investigations reveal that the group collected approximately 5.8 million euros through 92 fundraising campaigns intended to support families of children with severe illnesses. However, only about 1 million euros reportedly reached the intended beneficiaries. The remaining funds were allegedly used to finance a luxury lifestyle involving five-star hotels, designer goods, cruises, and expensive restaurants.

Beyond embezzlement, the organization is accused of using the illicit proceeds to manipulate football match results and fund specific sports clubs. Evidence suggests the group engaged in match-fixing by influencing referee appointments and placing bets to launder money. Police seized mobile phones, computers, luxury watches, and designer bags during the raids. The group allegedly utilized shell companies and betting accounts to launder the stolen donations.
