Greek police identify two suspects in Rethymno arson cases

The Hellenic Police’s Crime Investigation Sub‑division in Rethymno solved two arson incidents in the municipality of Mylopotamos. The first fire broke out on 24 December 2025 at a local business, and the second on 17 July 2026 damaged a private vehicle. Investigators identified a 22‑year‑old and a 37‑year‑old resident as the perpetrators and opened criminal files for arson against both men.

During a search of the younger suspect’s home, officers seized a hunting rifle and six cartridges, leading to an additional charge for illegal weapons possession. The police statement noted, “The thorough investigation and proper use of evidence resulted in solving two arson cases and filing criminal files against two locals in Rethymno.” The incidents caused material damage but no reported injuries.
